Each day as we work in coastal and offshore waters we encounter a wide range of cetaceans. Here are some encounters that remain memorable.
An adult humpback whale doing a peduncle slap makes a huge noise and splash! In the remote Kimberley, it is on for young and old as they communicate through these active behaviours across Lalang-Garram Camden Sound Marine Park.
B-R-E-AC-H! Everybody loves this energetic behaviour!
Well hello there!

This humpback whale calf rolled and twisted consistently showing an excellent view of its’ body with every turn. It appeared in good body condition but Curt presumed that it was deaf and blind since it did not appear to be at all aware of our presence. Sadly, the constant bites of the prowling sharks were getting its’ attention. We were unable to help which was excruciating.
A northward migrating common minke whale, seen during the winter in the Perth Basin.
A pygmy blue whale in the Perth Canyon. Deep offshore water provides an important krill cafe for these feeding whales.
