Cetacean Season 2015

With a planned stop at Lizard Island for lunch, Whale Song was anchored in the bay by 0635.  Determined to take the crew ashore, we thought we should do a reconnaissance mission first to make certain of a few things like was the restaurant open etc, so we took Storm into the beach.

Well, sadly the recent cyclone had clearly caused much damage to the island resort’s infrastructure but the beach still looked lovely.   Next week, they will re-open. we returned to Whale Song, content for Resty’s garlic prawns and noodles for lunch , we did struggle on!

The beach still looks really nice! We arrived a week too early - the resort will be open next Friday.

Dave put his chef hat on this evening and prepared a beautiful meal of Beer-can Chicken on the bbq with baked herbed potatoes and green salad with special dressing!  Wow, have we fallen into a restaurant on the QM2?

Northward inside the reef we progressed and at 1900 are in deep enough water for our first sonobuoy deployment.  We are eagerly awaiting the first dwarf minke whale call!  We know you are out there, we just want to listen!
