Liquid Air

Liquid Air Day 10 (Feb 09, 2016)

It’s wet, I mean on the deck and in the air-all around. We have that surrounding advection fog again! 100% relative humidity, smoke particles in the air, being in the middle of a high pressure system and low wind conditions have given us fog again.

I have to state right here, there is nothing at all disconcerting about not seeing the comforting flashing light of Cape Leeuwin lighthouse only 8 nm away… The radar is your friend in these situations. You have your eyes glued on its’ revealing information.

We have just done the canyons on the south coast, now we are doing the capes. Cape Leeuwin, at the southwest tip of Western Australia, is one of the 5 famed southern capes in the SH in good company with the Cape of Good Hope (South Africa), Cape Horn (South America), South East Cape (Australia) and South West Cape (NZ). Heading north from Cape Leeuwin on the south-western tip of the roughly north/south edge of southern WA, the chart declares even more capes. Starting from the south our well-known Cape Leeuwin, next Cape Hamelin, Cape Freycinet, Cape Mentelle, Cape Clairault and Cape Naturaliste. Each and every one, beautifully guarding their bays and beaches.

Sunset at Sea. Last one for this trip.

Sunset at Sea. Last one for this trip.

No real activity cetacean-wise today, just lots and lots of looking at gorgeous blue sea. Wafts of smoke from inshore fires, brought unusual orange hues to the sunset.

Reflecting on all the wonderful cetacean action we have experienced on this journey,

Mich
