Launch Day!

Day 1 (Jan 31, 2016)

After 18 days on the hardstand, Curt announced this morning with great relief that we would be outta here today. ‘I’ve had the ‘nuff’ he told me, just as our youngest daughter would reply upon asking about having had sufficient to eat!

Promise of a Good Day. Another beautiful sunrise.

At 1032 we began the slow ride down the slipway. To ensure smooth and safe passage back into the water, a drum of cable holding the cradle is gently let out centimetre by centimetre from a small shed at the top of yard and simultaneously a front-ender load pulls a line secured to the cradle. Whale Song, supported by four posts in/on the cradle then, ever-so-slowly re-enters the water at the wharf. Forty-five minutes later all systems were being tested while still held safely in the cradles. Checking the raw-water systems and pumps is a careful and pains-taking process-after all our lives depend on their correct operation.

Check the List. Bottom paint is done – check.

On the Move! Moving down the slipway, the water beckons!

At anchor, near the slipway we continued testing the systems and nicely our timing seemed perfect to catch up with colleagues, Pete, Vinny and Andrew for dinner on board. Overnight, we will continue to monitor and on the ‘morrow, with good weather we hope to get underway!

Bobbing! We are floating again–yahoo!

Take care,

Mich
