We Are In The Mix Again!
Yes, we have whales again! During the night in our 9pm, 3am and on all of the three-hourly daytime sonobuoy deployments, we have begun to detect whales again! A blue whale call, a Bryde¹s whale signature and humpbacks singing, these all herald the start of many hours of whale calling to come!
Happiness is whale detections on on our acoustic equipment! It is taking all my self-control to not turn our vessel to port taking us inshore, where we know our friends are beginning to congregate. I shall resist.

Skipper, my white shadow helps by scanning for humpback whales from the top deck, but alas, we are too far offshore!
Throughout the morning and afternoon, the clouds gathered with the promise of yet another stunning sunset. Well, the sun-down, again, did not fail to disappoint. Yet another wonderful day of listening to whales and munching for our evening meal on Resty¹s superbly prepared roast pork with roast potatoes, sweet potatoes, parsnips served with green beans and garlic! Yum! The chocolate bar is still unclaimed for our first humpback whale sighting.

At least twelve frigate birds glide and soar on the thermals high above the tropical sea. White patches on the underwing determine species, this individual is a Lesser Frigate with the orange hue indicating a juvenile age class.
Most likely, it will be handed out as we round to the south, passing Ningaloo in a couple of days time. Humpback whales are already on the loose here!
Looking forward to our first visual sighting!
Take care,
Mich
