Blue Whale Season 2015

Flexing at the surface.

From rostrum to tail fluke this pygmy blue whale is 22 m long, similar in size to our vessel.  Between blows this whale arched and flexed it’s body at the surface.  The head is just beneath the water at the left of the image, the body (including the dorsal fin and the caudal peduncle) are clearly visible and the 7m across tail flukes are just below the water surface on the right of the image.  Perhaps these are surface exercises, the whale flexing, in preparation for the next decent.
