New Gallery – Divine Dolphins!

During any voyages, either coastal or offshore, the CWR Team are thrilled to encounter dolphins bowriding or observations from afar. 

These images of various species are from several different locations. Some species are naturally gregarious and race to bowride moving vessels like the Indo-Pacific Bottlenose dolphins that often escort RV Whale Song in and out of the Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour. Other dolphin species are elusive and cryptic, such as Risso’s dolphins, where from a pod of spread out animals, only a handful are seen nearby for positive identification. 

One such occasion crossing the Great Australian Bight, a loud whoosh beside RV Whale Song heard through the open wheelhouse door during my 12-3am night watch caught my attention. Looking into the blackness, I saw twinkly outlines of short-beaked common dolphins as if they were sheathed in diamond sparkles!
