The Film – Birthplace of the Giants

Just a reminder…

Tonight the documentary filmed in the Kimberley on humpback whales will air again (Oct 26, 2016) on Nat Geo Wild at 830pm AEST.

Follow the antics of humpback whales on their northern tropical breeding ground in Western Australia. Experience the highs and lows, the boisterous times and the quiet times.  It’s busy being a humpback whale!

More resting by  a cow/calf/escort pod.  Note the quadcopter at the top of the image, above the whales.  This proved to be such an amazing way to film and learn more of the beautiful relationship between a cow and her newborn calf.

A large pod of males, on the loose, looking for girls!

lowres-0286Success!  This female humpback whale mated the previous year (around Sept/Oct) and has given birth to her calf in the warm, calm water of the Kimberley. This humpback whale calf is dwarfed by its’ huge mother.  This is simply fantastic news – mum  is a great milk truck!

We wish all the calves of this season a safe trip to the Antarctic for the summer.
