Hey True Blue! a Poem by Micheline Jenner

Hey True Blue!

True Blue

Now Antarctic blue

It’s Australia Day!

Please come out to play

We’d love to see you

And get a pic or two

This is the day we wear our boardies

And have a swim and barbies

But out here on the blue

We have a few things to do

Hear a whale

And see its’ tail

Please Mr. Blue, give us a real treat

Swing by for a meet and greet

Any cetacean would do of course

But we’ll do without a white-capped horse

Burgers and mash

With gallons of train smash

The new burger of our coat of arms

Has emu and roo – ringing tourist alarms!

Aussie-ness

Is beach-iness

Thongs, t-shirts and cozzies

At summer barbies mind the mozzies

Pies, chips and vegemite

They’ll make you grow alright

Lamingtons and pav

You can give it all you have

Hello cobber, g’day mate!

Bonza bottler, bring a plate

In oz we’ve simple lingo

Just listen ta Ernie Dingo!

Blues – please be dinky-di

With a krill pie in your eye

Come by for a Captain Cook

And we’ll put you in our photo book!

With flag tattoos

On cheeks of crews

With smiles and a sing-a-long

Sam plays his uke to the girlie throng

With burgers and bangers

The offshore crew swaggers

And chats of being aussies

At the beach in our cozzies!

Have a great day bluey

Tuck into Boags or Toohey

Our “At Sea” Australia Day

Is special in a different way!
