Buccaneer Sleeping Beauties!

Aug 16, 2014

At 0715 am we anchored beside a beautiful island in the Buccaneer Archipelago in a gorgeous bay on the west side, with a black rocky outcrops, green Pandanus palms and Spinifex-covered headlands with blue sky and aqua water surrounds.  How idyllic is this?  As we waited out the gusty easterly, we busied ourselves with activities, computer work or ship’s maintenance.

Burning fires shroud the horizon with swirling designs and interesting hues.

Leaving the bay, we raised the anchor at noon to survey the waters near the Buccaneer Archipelago.  With the tide change, we found the water adjacent to the Buccaneer Archipelago very green and blue, swirled with mud.   Again, the whales seen after lunch appeared brown in the pale green water.  Some of the pods this afternoon seemed very sleepy and snoozy, just chilling in the spa-bath water.

Smoke haze continued to dominate the sky and in the midday weather, I detailed smoke haze alongside the ‘no cloud’ entries.  We found a cow/calf pod and documented their behaviour with the sun setting.   Another cute little calf, they are all cute!  Welcome to the world little one!

My throat is feeling scratchy, so I would prefer a break from the haze, but it did make a very nice sunset, anyway… We anchored again just after dinner in the lovely bay…

Looking forward to the next adventure tomorrow!  Another day spent with whales, is a fantastic one!
